Two Long Bamboo Rods Game

Enggrang
Enggrang is a kind of art that evolved into an Indonesia traditional game. It is estimated began to develop in the 1960s in Karawang district, West Java, firstly known as a performance art accompanied by a variety of traditional instruments. It is not yet known for sure where the origin of Enggrang, In various regions enggrang encountered with different names. In some areas of West Sumatra called “Tengkak-Tengkak” meaning of the word lame, in Bengkulu called “Ingkau” which means bamboo shoes, in Central Java called “Jangkungan” which was adapted from the name of a long-legged bird. In the language of Banjar, South Kalimantan, it is called batungkau. Enggrang itself comes from Lampung which means sandals made of bamboo beheading elliptical.

Sumatran tiger  (Harimau Sumatera) is one of six sub-species of tigers that still survive to this day and are included in the classification of critically endangered species. Total population in the wild is only about 400 individuals. As the primary predator in the food chain, the tiger preserve wild prey populations that are under control and that the balance between prey and vegetation that they eat can be maintained.

The Cirebon Mask Dance

Tari Topeng Cirebon, it is original art of Cirebon area, West Java, including surrounding area Indramayu and Jatibarang. The dance is one of the dances in Parahyangan land, and called Tari Topeng as the dancers use masks when dancing. It has a lot of variety, and growth in terms of movement as well as a story to be conveyed. Sometimes the dance performed by one dancers but at others time can be played by several people.

Bandung Lautan Api (Bandung as Sea of Fire) is a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung, on March 24, 1946. Within seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung burn their homes, leaving the city to the mountains in the south of Bandung. This is done to prevent the Allies and the Dutch NICA soldiers using Bandung as a strategic military headquarters in the War of Independence of Indonesia.

Yogyakarta was founded in 1775 and was the capital of Mataram Kingdom when the Dutch come along. The Dutch granted the Kings by title Sultan of Yogyakarta territory. Yogyakarta was also the scenes of Indonesia most successful rebellions against the Dutch – firstly with Prince Diponegoro who waged a holy war against colonial rule in 1825 – 1830, and also serving as the capital of the newly independent republic after world war II when the Dutch reoccupied BATAVIA (Jakarta).

“Badak Jawa” or a single horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros Sondaicus) is a member of the Rhinocerotidae family, one of the five species of rhinoceros that still exist until today. It is the same genus with India Rhinoceros. These rhinos have thick skin resembling armor. Its length can reach 3.2M and height to 1.7M, however the size is still smaller than the India Rhinoceros. The size of horn is about 20 cm, smaller than the other horn rhino species.

Sejak sore dan malam hari (tetapi tidak hingga tengah malam, yang sudah harus menjadi waktu beristirahat), anak – anak berkumpul di halaman rumah salah seorang dari mereka, biasanya yang halamannya luas dan sudah biasa dijadikan tempat berkumpul (base camp). Disana mereka melakukan permainan tradisional seperti Petak Umpet, Benteng, Kasti, Patok Lele, Cublak Suweng dan Ular Naga.

Hom Pim Pa

HOM PIM PA is a way to determine the winners and the losers by using the palm of the hand, usually carried out by at least three participants. They are simultaneously uttered HOM PIM PA. At pronounce the last syllable (pa), each participant shows one hand with the inside of palms facing down or up. The winner is the participant who showed a different palm of the other participants. Usually HOM PIM PA used by the children to determine their turn in a game. While playing hide and seek, for example, children who lost HOM PIM PA will act as "Kucing" or guard post.

In terms of geography and demography Surabaya now is the second largest city in Indonesia, but in terms of age the existence of this city is much older than Jakarta. Surabaya was initially the gate of Majapahit Kingdom which is located in the estuary of Kali Mas. It is not exactly sure the origins of this town, but a city anniversary is commemorated on May 31, 1293, the day when forces Majapahit Kingdom led by Raden Wijaya defeated the Mongol emperor Kubilai Khan's emissary. In those days mongol army is known as the strongest in the world.

YoYo is actually not Indonesia native toy, some may though the game which is also popular among adult comes from China but there is no valid evidence were found to support the claim. In other side there is a historical stuff where it was found a vase comes from the ancient Greek era depict a child was playing YoYo. The vase is expected to be made in 440 BC, when the YoYo is made of wood, metal, or fired clay. Its function not just for a toy but also a ceremonial where the skills of doing this toy indicate a child has a particular phase in his life.

What we expect from the kids someday? Besides being a devoted and useful, how we imagine their future lives? How they will play a role in the society? Some of them might become politicians, doctors, architects, cultural, or various other professions. Whatever their professions, the message we wanted to address that they should become a leader. It is good to be a formal leader, but the most important thing is being leader for themselves and moreover their close environment. The Leaders who are able to see the way, lead the way and goes the way when face difficult situations and challenges in their lives. Indonesia need more and more kids with the strong leadership characters to lead the nation into the bright future

Two or three decades ago almost every kid is participated in the flag ceremony, performed regularly at the school in each Mondays or in the historic day for the nation. It was done routinely so the kids memorized the important days, moreover relating to the independence day of the nation. They could explain the meaning behind the date 17 - 08-1945 and eloquently sang the national anthem of Indonesia. Unlikely, much kid now never again took the flag ceremony at the school particularly in international school. Even history lesson is no longer intense talking about Independence Day except when it comes to day. 

The Magnetism of Bali Dance

Almost all of us know KECAK, a Balinese traditional dance. It is combined of dance and musical drama originated from Bali Island which is very popular. The dance is done by a group of men, usually consist of 150 people or more. They are sitting on the ground and taking a circular position. The dancers wear cloth mounted circular waist, shouting the word "cak" and throwing "weapon". The dance story about Ramayana battle, in which a white monkey named Hanuman helped King Rama against King Ravana who abducted his wife. Unfortunately, it might be not all of us know how this dance originally evolved.

When develop this design, we were inspired by a country who is consisted thousands of islands, which littered the beautiful beaches and one of the longest coastline in the world. In the land of the islands grow different of culture, customs and habits that are so typical. This country is so rich so that from the place to place presenting the different experiences and sensations. Along its journey as a nation often happen internal conflict, infiltration, natural disasters, and other destructive things, but never have a desire for disintegrate. It is an amazing phenomenon and has to be proud!

How to introduce “Burung Garuda” as a Republic of Indonesia symbol to our kid? Of course there are a lot of ways, many methods and techniques. Fortunately LITTLE INDONESIA has a simple idea, which hopefully unique, interesting and effective. Following the trend of social media, we are inspired by the symbol of a bird on one media. Sooner or later our kids will interact to them so that its symbol will stick in their minds. Associated “Burung Garuda” with one of the social media sign is an exciting way to introduce the symbol of Indonesia.

Many of us may have heard the LOMPAT BATU (Jumping Stone) tradition of Nias Island, North Sumatra, but probably not many know the meaning. Jumping Stones or commonly Nias people referred as fahombo was originally done by a young Nias to show that he has grown and matured physically. If a man capable of skipping stones, are arranged with a height up to 2 m and a thickness of 40 cm, perfectly, it is a sign that he will be a warrior when his village conflicts with residents from other villages (samu’i mbanua/la’imba hor).

Who actually is a Little Indonesia? Is it us, our kid or someone/ something else? The answer could be anything, it is up to us. Perhaps it could be us as a small part in the huge of Indonesia, or it could be our kids at the age of their growth, but it could also be our habit, tradition and culture as part of Indonesia's rich culture. Let’s not put to a long debate to the answer. By this design we want to build and share the pride of Indonesia to our kids and their nearby neighborhood. As part of the global society, we do not want the culture or anything about Indonesia just crushed by global wave. Indonesia must remain a milestone where our kids stand strong in the big wave. Let's share our proud of Indonesia!

Save Our Big Ape

Our idea to campaign save the endangered animals first goes to Orangutan, a giant ape who lives only on the island of Borneo and Sumatra. From year to year the population is increasingly threatened, Borneo orangutans in the category of endangered species with a population estimated at only stayed 57.000 tails, while the Sumatran Orangutan in the category of critically endangered with only about 7,500 left tails only.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is the motto of the Republik Indonesia. It is from the old Javanese phrase and often translated with the phrase "Berbada - beda tetapi tetap satu (Unity in Diversity)". Bhineka means "beraneka ragam (diverse)". Neka word in Sanskrit means "macam (kind)" and to forming the word "aneka (variety)" in Bahasa Indonesian. Tunggal word means "satu (one)". The word ika means " itu (it is)". Literally Bhinneka Tunggal Ika translated as "Beraneka Satu Itu (Wide One That)", which means even vary but Indonesian essentially remain unity. The motto is used to describe the unity and integrity of Republik Indonesia which consists of different cultural, language, region, race, ethnicity, religion and belief.
