Enggrang
Enggrang is a kind of art that evolved into an Indonesia traditional game. It is estimated began to develop in the 1960s in Karawang district, West Java, firstly known as a performance art accompanied by a variety of traditional instruments. It is not yet known for sure where the origin of Enggrang, In various regions enggrang encountered with different names. In some areas of West Sumatra called “Tengkak-Tengkak” meaning of the word lame, in Bengkulu called “Ingkau” which means bamboo shoes, in Central Java called “Jangkungan” which was adapted from the name of a long-legged bird. In the language of Banjar, South Kalimantan, it is called batungkau. Enggrang itself comes from Lampung which means sandals made of bamboo beheading elliptical.

Enggrang familiar to children in Java community in the past decades and almost certainly to be found easily in many places in rural and urban areas. There are opinions that mention this game has been around since the colonial era, referring to the Java Dictionary written by WJS Poerwadarminto, publihed in 1939, that include the word “enggrang – enggrangan” defined as a game using a tool called enggrang. In the same dictionary, enggrang is given meaning as bamboo or wood that was the foundation for the legs to run freely.

Enggrang made using two long bamboo rods each about 2M long. Then about 50 cm from the bottom, bamboo hollowed out and put another 20-30 cm in length that serves as a footrest. Unfortunately, traditional games enggrang now no longer known to the children because they are more familiar with the modern game. Enggrang there's more filling museums or research institutions related to culture and history. Enggrang stay a memorable present and occasionally still displayed in cultural events.
